During his visit to Belgrade Alfred Mantik, the Deputy Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs reported that the riots held on Tuesday evening in Genoa, arranged by Serbian football fans, significantly complicate Serbia to join the European Union.

So Alfredo Mantik said that he was very sorry, but these actions of Serbian football fans are the scandalous highway of Serbia. He also added that, in his opinion, the Sunday gay parade and yesterday’s incident in Genoa are the same people in Belgrade. According to Mantik, someone wants to prevent Serbia’s entry into the European Union and does everything related to this.

Recall that yesterday, the EURO -2010 qualifying match, which was held between the national team of Serbia and Italy was stopped by Craig Thomson – the main referee. The reason was the impossibility of ensuring security on the field due to aggressive behavior of Serbian fans.

Upon arrival in Geno, Serbian fans even before the start of the game began to throw smoke bombs and other items on the football field. Due to these reasons, the players of both teams released on the playing field were forced to return back to locker rooms. Thus, six minutes later from the beginning of the match the game was stopped. The referee asked to approach him a representative of UEFA, two national federations and captains of the teams that played that day. Despite the fact that some believed that the match could still be resumed, the referee declared his decision that the meeting of the teams would be finally discontinued.

After this decision was made, both at the Genoese stadium and abroad, the Serbs arranged mass riots, as a result of which sixteen people were injured. Two carbiers were also among the victims. Italian law enforcement agencies with great difficulty managed to restore order in the city.

Today it became known that last night seventeen Serbian football fans and their leader were arrested in Genoa. In total, the Italian police charged thirty -five Serbian fans.

At the same time, Alfred Mantik emphasized that the events that occurred in Genoa would not affect the support provided by Italy regarding Serbia entering the EU. Nevertheless, after the incident, the situation will noticeably complicate. In addition, Mantic also emphasized that some of the countries of the EU, among which the Netherlands, show serious concern in connection with the incident during the Belgrade gay parade.
